ABOUT
Alessandro Maida a.k.a. Scarful was born in 1968 and is an artist and designer from Rome. After his artistic and university studies in Architecture and Design, he became interested in all things pertaining to graphics/illustration and lettering and began working as a graphic artist, creating the Hateful Graphic Vandals collective (1995) together with other writers/artists from the Roman scene. This brought about his first graphic creations under the name of Scarful.
He is a member of the WHY STYLE group, together with artists Joe, Nico, Pane and Stand, with whom he has taken part in exhibitions and events since 2003.
Some of his exhibitions over the past two years include: Vinyl factory, Mondo Pop Gallery, Rome; Urban superstars, Museo di Arte Contemporanea MADRE, Naples; Scala mercalli Auditorium Parco Musica, Rome; Roma caput mundi Mondo Pop Gallery, Rome; Dirt don’t hurt Romberg Gallery, Rome; The skulls of Rome Becool Gallery, Rome; On the way of mixed media Chiostri di S. Domenico, Reggio Emilia; Urban edge show Spazio P4, Milan; Wop Temple University, Rome.
He has created artwork for bands like Zu, Antiyou, Truceklan, Dimension X, Ius Primae Noctis, Ardecore and many others and continues to collaborate as art director with several communication agencies in Italy. He has worked for Beams-T Japan, VNGRD, Carhartt, Nike Streetwear and SlamTrick.
